St. Anna is the mother of the Theotokos. She and her husband Joachim were unable to have a child. After many years, their prayers for a child were answered, and they were told that they would conceive a daughter who they would name Mary. This child would be dedicated to the Temple, where she would remain a virgin, but give birth to the Savior of the World.
