Archangel Raphael

the Holy Archangels, by the hand of Matthew D. Garrett Archangel Raphael, by the hand of Matthew D. Garrett
The Archangel Raphael plays a great role in the book of Tobit, where he guides Tobias on a journey, appearing as a man named Azarias. He is shown in the icon on the left standing on a fish. This comes from Tobit 6 where he instructs Tobias to remove the heart, gall, and liver from a fish to be used to cure people from possession and blindness.

The icon on the left was commissioned by Fr. Michael Begolly.

The Icon on the right is part of a mural of Archangels commissioned by Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church (OCA) in Monongahela PA.
