St. Athanasius the Great

St. Athanasius is known as one of the great defenders of the Faith. He was present for the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325. He was there as an attendant to his patron, Alexander. He was elected to succeed Alexander as bishop and later became Patriarch of Alexandria. He was steadfast in his opposition to heresy and was exiled by both the emperor Constantine and later by Constantius. Among his many wrtitings is a life of St. Anthony.
