Not much is known definitively about the life of St. Christopher. Tradition says that he was a very strong man, and tall of stature. He made a living carrying people across a river. One day he carried a small child across, and was startled by how heavy the child was, so much so that he feared he would be unable to make it across. When he reached the other side, the child revealed himself as Christ, and the weight that St. Christopher had carried was the sins of the world. St. Christopher is depicted here with the Christ Child on his shoulder.
