St. John Climacus

St. John Climacus was a 7th century monk at St. Catherine's Monastery at Mt. Sinai. He wrote many books on spiritual direction, the best known being The Ladder of Divine Ascent , which describes the gradual ascent of the soul to God through asceticism. St. John is commemorated on the fourth Sunday of Great Lent every year.
