St. Elizabeth the New Martyr was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria and married the son of Tsar Alexander the II of Russia, and a convert to Orthodoxy. When her husband was assassinated, she sold her possessions and founded the Mary and Martha Home in Moscow through which she was well known for her works of charity.When the Bolsheviks came to power, she and some of the other Sisters from Ss. Mary and Martha were martyred for their faith.
