St. Tikhon (1865-1925) was assigned as the bishop for the American mission. He consecrated two auxilliary bishops for the diocese, St. Raphael Hawaweeny, and St. Innocent. He did much to strengthen the mission, and create a real, viable diocese for this country. He later returned to Moscow to be Patriarch of Moscow. He is known for being a humble, simple man of great kindness and love for his flock. The two images on the leftare part of a mural of the American Orthodox Saints commissioned by Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church (OCA) in Monongahela PA.
